Environmental Storytelling - Middleton Woods Developed pieces

These are my developed drawings for the Woods. As the drawings i did weren't very detailed i had to work with both the illustrations and from the photographs in order to come up with some interesting designs and backgrounds.

I wanted to get a balance of medias and colours when i did these drawings so this one was done as a line drawing to try and bring forth a bit more detail as well as expression in the image. Using just pen allowed me to focus on looking deeper into the scenery to try and pick out and realise back and fore ground elements as well as the horizon line and where it could be.
This collaged piece was influenced by 'Sleeping Beauty' backgrounds. very simple shapes with similar colours but with a lot of patterns and details drawn into the shapes. I should of done more trees… With the tree cut outs that i have I'm quite happy with as they fit really well with the bright colour scheme even though it looks more like a desert than a woods. if i could of i would of improved it by adding more tree cut outs to the background as well as taking the colours down slightly to be more muted in tone.
While this is very quick and rough i like how it includes a person as it works with rule of thirds and the composition looks really nice. i like the empty space over inn the corner of the image to show the sky peeking through although I'm disappointed in the fact that the person doesn't feel like part of the scene, there aren't enough lines below her to show the depth and distance in the space she stands so she looks out of place.
This actually turned out pretty well in the fact that i had accidentally picked u[p colours such as purple and orange/red but they looked darker in the poor lighting i had, resulting in some slightly more unconventional imagery. The dashes of colour give it a bit more life than if it was just browns and greens not to the ludicrous amount of the 'sleeping beauty' based image but subtly. done in coloured chalk pastels, they fitted with trying to make the further distance look more faded and distant.
One of my favourite images i did. After scanning in the image i drew over the top with a brush i felt was most like a charcoal piece to get the uneven and scratchy scattered lines. I used lower opacity further back and stronger opacity for further forward and small details. The brush gave an almost pastel effect once i applied the colour, these really brought the image to life working with warm colours i tried to make the woods look inviting and full of life. This is the reason for the bright yellow in the background, the sun was shining directly at me and i wanted to try and show the light but white made the scene to cold so i used a golden colour instead. The reason the image is portrait and not landscape as well was because i wanted to try and get as much of the trees as possible to show there height. I imagine a large panning shot.
