Visual Langauge - Form Flow and Force, Life Drawing, Animators Survival Kit

The idea of life drawing is something animators seem to shy away from as it isn't how they'd animated, they wouldn't add such extensive detail to animations, normally. From the animators Survival Kit, Milt Kahl said

"I don't think its possible to be a top notch animator with out being an excellent draftsman"

Life drawing allows us to see and view what a persons figure in a way that brings out all the proportions and tone. With an understanding of proportions it then goes on to effect how we perceive and understand our speed drawings, creating more proportionate action drawings. A background in life drawing supports the drawings of your characters and people, its the basis of all drawing skills.

Art Babbitt was an animator for walt disney, working on things such as snow white and he is very blunt

"If you can't draw - forget it. You're an actor with out arms and legs."

This was said but its possible to learn to draw obviously. one can learn through observational drawing not from it coming out of your head, while that is part of it and possibly the igniting spark, Richard Kelsey told Richard Williams when he was fifteen

"First of all kid, learn to draw. You can always do the animation stuff later."

I think what he was trying to say was to be an animator you first have to be able to be an illustrator. Walking before running.

The below are all my Life drawings i have done over the past year since January, so essentially these have all helped in my development and abilities in life drawing.
